it is about the food again

cutlet rice at Nara, supposedly very popular among the locals. i like the name though…顽固, it means stubborn. lunch is pretty cheap. around 1000 yen. look at the full set below. free tea.

they would teach you how to grind your sesame and add either spicy sauce or sweet sauce to go with your cutlet. of course, you add both!

p1050670.jpg

my friend ordered the contemporary set, umeboshi (plum) inside chicken cutlet

We also went to another town called imai cho 今井町

it is a well preserved old town in Nara ken. We wandered into a family restaurant and saw that everyone ordered this… it was good!

p1050066.jpg

it is actually omu rice, often found in jap small eateries. it is a really simple dish but not easy to make, cos got to make the eggs wrap around the rice without using chopstick or other tool… you have to toss the pan to shift the eggs to cover the rice… do you understand???

we ended the trip with a quick meal at the ramen street at Nagoya station. my friend ordered this small dish called cha siew rice. delicious! something unique that i have not tried before, unfortunately i can’t tell how they make the sauce

p1050673.jpg

the other half had this, dan dan mian. spicy noodles. pretty salty…

macadamia spread

if you are holidaying in bangkok or chiang mai or just transiting at the thailand international airport. Do pick this up at the airports. It is really aromatic and has no additives (its claim). Plus, it is so cheap~! i forgot exactly how much but it prob only costs a little more than the regular peanut butter, goes well with fresh bread.  ^_^

I only have a bit left! how??!!

sushi party

Was invited to a sushi party organised by friends. Had a lovely time and ate too much!

Took the photos with my keitai (handphone). Sorry about the quality!

Ingredients include avocado, crab meat, unagi, fried eggs, sashimi etc.

Conclusion? it is really not too hard to make sushi, but good company is essential. ^_^

summer night in nara

We did a last min trip to Nara. It was my third trip to this beautiful place.

This time, Nara managed to surprise me, with the simplest tool, lights.

Lights were everywhere, quietly, in the parks, outside small restaurants and shops, along the long, narrow lanes…

It was almost too romantic to be true.

I had never stayed in Nara, but we stayed a night at a small inn. The lady owner was so pretty I couldn’t stop looking at her. heheheh. She was also fluent in English and very helpful.

I have more photos of Nara in the day, but let’s enjoy Nara in the dark first…

korean restaurant

After a long but satisfying day trip to Kobe during our holidays, we decided to give ourselves a treat at a korean restaurant near home. it is called jinggu and according to our korean classmate, it meant “friend” in korean. i ordered bibinba and the other half ordered yaki soba. delicious! friends’ orders were delicious too. but the most enjoyable part of the evening was talking about everything under the sun, in japanese, english, chinese and little cantonese. sometimes, it is not the food that matters, but the company, but good food definitely helps!!

oh, when we enter the restaurant we have to take off shoes and sit on the floor. i guess it sort of relaxed us too.  ^_^

bibinba, toppings include fish roe (i like!) and lots of vegetables. but i dont think this is real korean food lah…

my diary homwork

my teacher wants us to keep a diary, via homework sheets. so i shall type the corrected versions here, for practice. i still don’t type japanese fast enough.
